Locations: This grass is commonly cultivated as a meadow and pasture grass, and is used as ground cover in orchards. Orchard Grass is also a valuable crop for hay. It is common in fields and waste places, preferring moist conditions. Orchard Grass is also used as reclamation vegetation due to burned, logged, and mined sites.

Description: Orchard Grass is a coarse perennial grass that grows 2’-4’ tall. The panicle, or pyramidal loosely branched flower cluster, is 2″-10” long. It has few somewhat stiff branches which spread or rise at flowering and are weighed-down at maturity. The blades are flat and the culms (grass stems) typically grow in large clumps.
