Distribution: Found throughout the United States except in arid regions. Not common in the Gulf states.

Locations: This grass is a common lawn and pasture grass. There are 33 varieties used for turf grass applications. Kentucky Bluegrass is also found in open woods, meadows, and open ground.

Pollination Method: Can reproduce asexually. Cross-pollinated by wind.

Pollinating Period: May & June

Description: Kentucky Bluegrass is a slender upright perennial grass which grows 1’-3’ tall. The blades are soft, flat, or folded. The flowering heads are densely clustered and it spreads by creeping rootstalks (rhizomes). The panicle, or branch which contains the flowers, is pyramidal and loosely spreading at maturity.
